I was just talking to someone a few weeks ago about how we haven't had any emergency trips with our kids. I knew I was jinxing myself, and I was right!
The girls were playing tag in the house last Tuesday night and Hailey tagged Addison a little too hard. Addison fell and hit her cheek on the edge of the metal bed rail that holds the box spring. It looked pretty deep, and we knew we needed to go in and have it checked out. We dropped the big girls off at Grandma and Grandpa's and headed to urgent care.
Addison wasn't really too upset about the whole thing. She just kept protecting it and saying "Owie on my cheek". Urgent care went pretty quickly, but then they decided to send us to Mary Bridge Children's Hospital in Tacoma. Because she is a girl and it is on her face, they wanted to do all they could to prevent scarring. So we headed to Tacoma at around 8pm.
I wanted to move in to this hospital! Sooo nice, and it has only been open for about a month. They offered us refreshments in the waiting room, but we were only waiting about 3 minutes before we went to our own room. CRAZY compared to Valley Medical, which is pure misery. In our own little room, they gave her stickers, bubbles, coloring and we had our own tv.
She loved having "beautiful bracelets" that the nurse gave her. She continued showing these off to people days afterwards. Oh, and she called the nurse, "my lady".
It was getting pretty late before they decided to just numb her and do the stitches (glad they didn't have to put her under or give any other drugs!). So she cuddled on my lap, watched tv, and then fell asleep.
Then the bad part - holding her down while they stitched her up. She didn't fight us, just cried a lot and it breaks your heart. But it was quick and they did a good job. Then they gave her a big red teddy bear to take home. This was around midnight! We got home around 1am. Fun, fun. But glad we did all we could to avoid too big of a scar. And it really wasn't that bad of an ER experience. Here is how it looks now...
Poor baby. Glad it wasn't worse or on her eye!

Oh goodness, do not like those moments. But so glad all turned out great!
OUCH!!! Glad that the ER experience was at least as good as can be expected. What is her allergy for the bracelet?? Hope everything heals well.
Oh Amy, that is so sad. Glad she wasn't too upset about the whole thing. Cole had three sets of facial stitches in his first two years of life...I feel your ER pain!
Poor girl! I'm glad it wasn't traumatic for her. Got to love ER visits......or not. :-)
So sorry. Hope she (and her cheek) feel better soon.
