The funny thing is, they are seriously like old friends, these characters that Symantha is now reading about. I can't believe she is reading authors like Beverly Clearly, Judy Blume, and a bunch of others that I remember reading when I was in Elementary school! She does read all sorts of the newer books too, but I can't help pointing out some of the ones I used to like. Some of my favorites were Mouse and the Motorcycle, The Boxcar Children, The Little House on the Prairie series and the assorted Fudge and Ramona books. I do, however, discover now as an adult, that a number of the children in these stories are BRATS (except Laura and Mary, of course. We love them). This was sad for me, as I don't remember them this way! I wonder what this says about me as a child.... but I digress. Luckily, it usually provides good opportunities for Symantha and I to chat about that bratty child and how NOT to act!
So what were your favorite books growing up?? Any great ones I am forgetting?

Oh I loved Boxcar Children and Babysitters Club....I have all of them...they are in my closet. :) Let me know if you need to borrow any.
Madison has enjoyed the Black Stallion and Black Beauty ones. Also EB White's Charlotte's Web, Trumpet of the Swan and Stuart Little. Mrs. Piggle Wiggle, Encyclopedia Brown.... I can't keep up anymore. Luckily there are so many amazing books out there she can never run out of reading material!
Madison really wants to start a book club. Maybe this summer!
I loved Louisa May Alcott's Little Women and Eight Cousins, the Anne of Green Gables series, Encyclopedia Brown, Nancy Drew, almost any mysteries...
You need to come over and see our upstairs playroom/library. I bet she could find something there she hasn't read yet!
I loved, loved, loved Anne of Green Gables, The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe series, James and the Giant Peach, and the Charlie and The Chocolate Factory/Great Glass Elevator books. I wish I could remember everything I read, but those immediately come to mind! (Choose your own adventure were really exciting too!) I love that your girl is a reader! I hope my boys will be too!
Pippy Longstocking! How could I forget Pippy Longstocking! Loved her!!!
This will be my last comment; I promise! (I'm excited by books...can you tell?) We just started Cole on chapter books with a series called Magic Tree House (adventures about a brother and sister.) The cool thing about these books is that some of the adventure books also coincide with "research" books too. So we're reading about a dinosaur adventure they're on, and then following it up with a factual book about dinos. Paperback, $5.00each. Awesome!
